Camel Trek at First Light

We leave the village in the dark — around 5.20am in summer, closer to 6.30am in winter — because the whole point is being out on the sand when the light turns the sandstone from grey to orange. That window lasts about twenty minutes. The route runs south-east to the red dunes at Al Hasany, roughly forty minutes out, where we stop, light a fire, brew tea and bake khubz in the ashes. Coming back we take a narrower wadi where the camels walk single file and nobody talks much. The honest part: camels are not comfortable. The saddle is a wooden frame under a folded blanket, the walk is a rolling side-to-side motion, and most people's inner thighs have an opinion about it the following day. Two and a half hours is roughly the ceiling for a first-timer, which is why we don't sell the four-hour version to people who have never ridden one. Children from six up are fine with a handler walking alongside. If you're over 100kg, say so when you book and we'll put you on Sabha, who genuinely does not care. No experience needed. You will not be trotting.
