Two Days Through the Mujib Gorge

Two days, one night, and nothing between you and the gravel but a foam mat. We start on the plateau above Dhiban, drop into the upper Mujib where nothing that runs as a day trip ever reaches, and walk down the wadi with the water building underfoot from a trickle to something you swim. Camp is a bar of river gravel with a tarp strung over it. No tents, no toilet, no shower - you dig a hole well away from the water and you carry the paper out with you. Dinner is chicken and vegetables grilled on the coals and it tastes better than it should. Day two is the technical half: three abseils, the longest twenty-five metres, several pools deep enough that swimming is the only option, and a two-hour stretch where turning back is not practical. You come out at the Adventure Centre in the afternoon. Two things: everything you bring gets wet unless it is in a dry barrel, and the RSCN closes the gorge without warning when water levels move. If they close it we refund in full, sometimes with less than a day's notice.
